Reviewed: Wolford Travel Leg Support Tights

The Travel Leg Support Tights by Wolford are a new addition to their Shape & Control range.

They were launched this autumn and UK Tights were keen for us to trial and review them.

Packaging

The packaging is pretty standard for Wolford. The tights are folded around a rectangular card that features a range of Wolford hosiery, clothes and shapewear.

The tights are then held by a card foldover which is then enclosed in a cellophane envelope.

Material and features

The Wolford Travel Leg Support Tights are, I believe, the first tights that Wolford have created to enhance comfort when travelling that might involve flying, or standing or sitting down for long periods.

Wolford describe them as follows:

"These matt tights with a delicate pattern support the areas of your body that matter, and ensure comfort when standing or sitting down for long periods. The knitted heel guarantees a precise fit, and the toes are reinforced for long-term wear. The knitted waistband is wonderfully soft and provides a perfect fit."

The tights are made from 82% Polyamide and 18% Elastane.

As soon as you take the tights from the packaging you notice how light they are. Not heavy and bulky like some compression hosiery. This is a plus in itself as if you pack them for travel they take up hardly any space and weigh hardly anything at all.

The Travel Leg Support tights have a matt appearance. They look like 40-50 denier.

The tights are sheer to waist with the pattern extending right up to the waistband.

The brief is deep and has a gusset. Seams are flat and expertly engineered as you would expect from Wolford. The waistband is 3cm wide and is soft and comfortable. The rear of the waistband has a Wolford label sewn in.

Additional specific features of these tights are the reinforced toes (much denser reinforcement than what most tights provide) and the knitted heel. Both provide durability and protect against the wear expected when travelling for long periods.

The tights have a really unique and elegant pattern.

Sizing, fit and wearing experience

The Wolford Travel Leg Support Tights are available in four sizes:

  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large
  • XL

We trialled them in the XL size.

The Wolford XL size always work so well for this reviewer and there no was exception here.

As with all tights with some compression, you need to take your time when putting them on to make sure that you get even coverage. In this case also, you will want to make sure that the toes and knitted heel sit in the right place.

Be careful with nails and even with any rough skin on your hands as this will catch on the tights quite easily.

Once in place, the tights provider what feels like light to medium support along the whole of the leg. There is no feeling of constriction or tightness, just a warm slightly firm caress on the leg that feels wonderful.

The high Elastane content (18%) provides a really super fit on the leg and these tights stay right in place all day.

The brief is nice and deep (as with all Wolford styles; one of the reasons we love them so much) and fits snugly over the waist.

Colour range

The Wolford Travel Leg Support Tights are available in three colours:

  • Black
  • Anthracite
  • Midnight

We wore them in the Black shade.

Price

At UK Tights, the Wolford Travel Leg Support Tights retail for £24.99.

Conclusion

The Travel Leg Support Tights are a welcome addition to the Wolford Shape & Control range.

They are light, easy to wear, durable and provide a moderate amount of leg support.

If you are looking for a warmer, denser support opaque from Wolford we recommend the Velvet 66 Leg Support Tights. These are more expensive but are an absolutely superb product - at the moment they are my favourite Wolford opaques and I already have three pairs of them. These are also described as 'medium support' but in my experience they provide more support and compression than the Travel Leg Support Tights that are reviewed here.

For lighter support, and when the weather is cool and not too cold, the Travel Leg Support Tights are recommended.

  1. I agree with you, they are more medium light support compared to the Velvet 66 Leg Support tights. I like them very much, for me they are like good wellness tights. I hope Wolford includes them in the "Unisex" collection as soon as possible.
