Fight the freeze: Recommended winter and thermal tights for men (Part 1)

With temperatures dropping sharply in recent days, keeping warm is now a priority.

And what better way to do it than a pair of warm winter or thermal tights.

Ditch your unfashionable and bulky traditional long-johns, and upgrade to tights.

Warm winter and thermal tights made with the latest yarns and materials, and are much more comfortable as an insulating layer under trousers or even with shorts.

We asked a range of UK hosiery retailers to recommend one style of warm, winter or thermal tights from their range of stock that they would recommend for men.

In Part 1 of this feature, UK Tights, Posh Tights and Tights Tights Tights make their recommendations for men.

UK Tights

Wolford Velvet Sensation Tights

UK Tights say:

"The Wolford Velvet Sensation Tights are 100 denier, very opaque, with a lovely matt finish. They are really soft and comfortable, ideal for those days in winter when you feel like a single pair of tights isn't enough to protect you from the cold!"

Posh Tights

Oroblu Fleece Lined Warm and Soft Tights

Posh Tights say:

"A personal favourite and a best seller. Gorgeously warm and comfortable opaque black 100 Denier tights made of soft and warm stretch micro-polar fleece, brushed inside. Plain stitch, very uniform and close-knitted and adheres very well to the leg. Flat seamed, invisible under clothing. Perfect for the colder winter days! Available in XL."

Tights Tights Tights

Falke Soft Merino Wool Tights

Tights Tight Tights say:

"Luxurious Merino wool tights from premium hosiery brand Falke. These tights are the ultimate in warm winter comfort. More than half of the composition is Virgin Merino wool, while the majority of the remainder is cotton. This combination creates perfection - the soft, skin loving cotton lines the inside of the tights, while Merino wool warms from outside. A reinforced heel and toe make this an ideal pair for teaming with boots, and the comfort top provides full movement without digging in."
